About Me
I was born and raised in small town NZ. My powerful urge to see the world culminated in a 25 year career in London with one of the global accountancy firms. I benefited from the incredibly strong coaching and mentoring culture, being taken under the wing of a series of wonderful mentors as I progressed through to partner. As I became more senior and experienced, I found great fulfilment in doing the same for those following me.
In 2004, aged 45, I participated in INSEAD’s Challenge of Leadership programme. This was life changing, crystallising my love of, and talent for, helping people and mentoring became my primary focus. In 2007, I was nominated for Mentor of the Year at the Women of the Future Awards.
I walked away from my career at 50, a huge decision that I have not regretted. I have an enriched lifestyle, able to use my mentoring skills without being constrained by the corporate environment. As well as my own activities, I am on the panel of mentors of Board Mentoring www.BoardMentoring.com. I also work as a non executive director for companies in challenging environments. I devote time to the voluntary sector, including at our local hospice, making cups of tea and chatting to patients - a truly humbling experience.
During this time, I have had to conquer a crippling fatigue disorder, which affected me for more than four years, and being diagnosed with colon cancer.
